Designing for the Way People Move

STUDIO JOUNRNAL

Movement as a design consideration

Successful environments guide people naturally. Entrances, transitions, sightlines and circulation can all influence whether a space feels intuitive or complicated.

By considering movement early, the design can create a stronger relationship between functional planning and the overall spatial experience.

Planning from experience outward

We map the key journeys through a space and identify where moments of arrival, pause and transition should occur. These observations help shape planning decisions before finer visual details are introduced.

Why is circulation important?

Clear circulation makes a space easier to understand and allows the design to support natural patterns of movement.

Can circulation affect atmosphere?

Yes. The sequence in which spaces are revealed can create anticipation, openness, privacy or intimacy.
