Set in the heart of Sydney’s Haymarket, One Playground’s flagship redefines the fitness and wellness destination. Spanning 2,500m², it brings together world-class training, immersive studios, and restorative wellness in a single, seamless environment. 

Henderson & Co. approached One Playground Haymarket with a vision to redefine the built environment of contemporary fitness, merging futurism, technology, and luxury into a seamless, high-performance spatial experience. This concept-led approach challenges traditional gym typologies, transforming the space into an immersive wellness destination where materiality, form, and function are intricately balanced.

At the core of the design is the notion of reflection, both physical and introspective. Mirrored planes, integrated digital installations, and a considered lighting strategy manipulate perception, shift perspectives, and heighten the relationship between movement and self-awareness. Positioned at the intersection of futurism, technology, and boutique luxury, Haymarket sets a new benchmark for urban fitness. It invites members to move, recover, and reflect, redefining not only how we train, but how we experience community and wellbeing.

Beyond aesthetics, the spatial planning and interior architecture have been carefully curated to enhance the training experience. Five premium studios, each defined by distinct materiality, spatial hierarchy, and energy, offer a layered and dynamic approach to fitness. Reformer Pilates, Motion, Pulse, Surge, and Force studios are housed within interiors that transition between high-intensity activation and restorative calm, engaging users through a thoughtful interplay of scale, light, and texture.

A FLAGSHIP DESTINATION‍‍

Delivered across 3 levels, Haymarket combines five purpose-built studios, a cutting-edge gym floor, and premium recovery zones. The entry sequence sets the tone: a soaring triple-height lobby anchored by a winding brass staircase, framed by stone, light, and reflection. Members move seamlessly from this moment of arrival into a curated world of movement and design.

The design was developed around Passive and Active elements. Passive elements, circulation, lounges, bathrooms, create a consistent backdrop through reflective surfaces, integrated screens, and considered lighting. Active elements, studios, weight areas, and high-intensity zones, provide dynamic, tactile, and visually engaging experiences that respond to human movement and energy. This balance ensures the environment feels both structured and responsive, supporting a range of training and wellness activities.

Studios are distinct, immersive environments: PULSE for high-intensity intervals, MOTION for multi-sensory dance and mat-based practice, and Reformer Pilates and Yoga studios designed for control, balance, and flow. A cycle theatre integrates advanced technology with sound and lighting, offering both rhythm-based and performance-driven rides.

On the gym floor, equipment was hand-selected from the world’s best: Watson dumbbells from the UK, German-built Gym80, Alphafit racks, and Italy’s Technogym Biostrength AI. Every piece was customised and branded, reinforcing Haymarket’s bespoke identity. Functional zones are uncluttered and expansive, designed to support movement without compromise.

Wellness completes the experience. Change rooms showcase stone finishes, grooming stations with Dyson technology, and traditional saunas offered as part of membership. The wellness lounge provides space to recover, work, or connect, extending the idea of reflection into moments of pause.

Through cutting-edge technology, a refined material palette, and a future-focused spatial narrative, Henderson & Co. with One Playground has shaped this Haymarket facility into a curated exhibition of movement, energy, and transformation, a testament to the evolving intersection of fitness, architecture, and human experience.
